Innisfail Winter Baseball Camp

About the Innisfail Winter Baseball Camp:

The Innisfail Winter Baseball Camp is open to all skill levels of participants aged Mosquito to Midget.

The Camp will run on Sundays beginning January 14, 2018 and ending on March 25, 2018. There will be two - 2 hour sessions; the first session will run from 3:30pm to 5:30pm, and the second session will run from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. A third session may be added after 8:00pm for the older kids depending on interest and registration numbers.

The 2-hour session that your child will be assigned to will be determined after the registrations are in, but the intention is for the younger kids to attend the earlier session, and the older kids attend the later session.

All of the sessions will be at the Springbrook Multiplex Gymnasium in Springbrook, AB. Each session will have 20 to 30 kids divided into 3 working groups. There will be a Lead Instructor and 3 Coaches, and some additional helpers may be added. All baseball skills will be covered over the 11 sessions.

Lead Instructors:

Brant Stickel:

Brant played his minor baseball in the Veteran, Alberta area where he won a number of Provincial and Western Canadian championships with the Veteran AA Bulls and Cold Lake AA Cardinals.

After minor baseball, Brant attended Minot State University in Minot, North Dakota on a baseball scholarship. Wanting to move closer to home, he enrolled at Mount Royal University and played 4 seasons with the University of Calgary Dinos Baseball Club under head coach, A.J Fystro. Fystro has been listed in the Top - 100 most influential people in Canadian baseball history thus far.

During his time with the Dinos, Stickel was awarded:
- 2008 1st team All Conference 1st Baseman
- 2010 1st team All Conference Utility Player of the Year
- Led CCBC in RBI's and led CCBC in Strikeouts as a pitcher

After University baseball, Stickel signed with the Calgary Vipers in the Golden Baseball League as an OF/Pitcher. Following the 2010 season, he signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers organization and competed in the parallel league in San Joaquin, Venezuela.

In 2011, Stickel pitched for the Low-A class Great Lakes Loons and the Low-A class Ogden Raptors before winning an Arizona League Championship with the AZL Dodgers. Stickel posted a 0-2 record with a 1.56 era over 17.1 innings in Arizona as a reliever.

In the off season, Stickel was the pitching coach for the University of Calgary Dinos, joining up with Coach Fystro one more time.

Following that, he played in the Pecos League with the Roswell Invaders for a short period before returning back to Alberta to take on a position as the pitching coach for the Badlands Badgers Baseball Academy based out of Oyen, Alberta.

Brant now resides in the Pine Lake area with his wife Bobby-Jo, sons Bentley and Graeson, and daughter Keely.

Brant has organized and run numerous baseball clinics. He is very excited to be given the opportunity to work with the kids at the Innisfail Winter Baseball Camp, and looks forward to progressing young baseball players’ skills and knowledge.

Brett Littlefair:

Brett is the Head Coach of the Innisfail Merchants Junior AAA Baseball team.

In 2017, he represented Baseball Alberta and completed 9 baseball specific Competition Development Courses in Orlando, Florida.

Brett grew up in the area, played minor baseball in Innisfail and Red Deer, and represented Alberta at Western and National levels on a number of occasions.

Brett’s goal now is to help develop young baseball players in Central Alberta and grow the game of Baseball.

Corbyn Shields:

Corbyn grew up in the area and played minor baseball in Innisfail. He then played Bantam and Midget AAA in Red Deer. 

He has been part of many teams that won medals at the Bantam AAA, Midget AAA and Junior AAA Provincial and Western Canadian levels.

Corbyn attended Minot State University and played for 2 seasons in the NCAA Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

He is a current player and Coach of the Innisfail Trappers Senior AA Baseball team.

Corbyn is passionate about Baseball, and he looks forward to being able to give back to the game and organizations that have given him endless opportunities.

Jay Kirkham:

Jay grew up in the area and played minor baseball in Innisfail. He then played Bantam and Midget AAA in Red Deer.

He has been part of many teams that won medals at the Bantam AAA, Midget AAA and Junior AAA Provincial and Western Canadian levels.

Jay attended Minot State University on a baseball scholarship.

He is a current player and Head Coach of the Innisfail Trappers Senior AA Baseball team.

Equipment Required:

Glove, Indoor shoes, Athletic clothing, Protective cup, Bat (optional)
- Bats, balls, hitting nets and all other required equipment will be provided

Cost and Payment:

The cost to attend the Innisfail Winter Baseball Camp is $250.00.
